Since April 2017, even as a small business you must have a workplace pension in place. The Pensions Regulator will have written to you advising you of your duties and how to comply before that date. You can check your obligations on their website at: http://www.thepensionsregulator.gov.uk
Your responsibilities include enrolling those eligible employees who meet the criteria into a workplace pension scheme and making minimum contributions towards it. This is called automatic enrolment. It is called this because it is automatic for your staff – they don’t have to do anything to be enrolled in your pension scheme. But it is not automatic for you.
